Dunagiri Temple

Dunagiri temple is located in Dwarahat block of almora district in Uttarakhand. The temple is at a distance of 14 kms form dwarahat and one needs to walk
500 stairs after which one can reach this temple. The temple is located at a hilltop and is surrounded by forest, it is famous in kumaon region for its Shakti (power) and is dedicated to Dunagiri Devi.

Why Dunagiri Temple

It is believed that the pandavas of Mahabharata took shelter at dunagiri and pandukholi is the place where they stayed for a period of time. According to the mythology Hanuman of Ramayana dropped some part of sanjivni buti when he was carrying a mountain to lanka. Himalayan peaks like chaukhamba, trishul, etc. can be seen from the place which attracts lots of tourist to this area.
