Trekking trail distance – 4 kms

Total distance covered – 25.5 kms

Route Detail: malsi – Rajpur(4.5 kms), Rajpur – Shahanshahi(1.5 kms), Shahanshahi – trekking distance to Jharipani(4 kms),
Jharipani – Chunakhala(3 kms), Chunakhala – Kolhukhet(3.5 kms), Kolhukhet – Kuthalgate(5kms), Kuthalgate – Malsi(4 kms).

For most of the people a gym is a large room with equipment for exercising the body and increasing strength but for me “Road” is my gym. I have been doing cycling for past 3 years and have explored almost every possible route near rajpur. I was desperate to find a new route for a change as the old ones did not excite me anymore. Soon I came to know about a trail which started from shahanshahi ashram (Rajpur) and ended at jharipani (Mussoorie). The trail is basically used by people who like to hike during weekends. I interacted with locals and managed to extract some information about the route. The locals told me that the route is a steep ascent from start till the end and if was too done by riding a cycle it would be a tough challenge for me, but I was focused and really excited to try the new route.

The day was Saturday and at 4:00 pm I picked up my cycle and carried my Quechua 20 litre hiking bag in which I kept my camera, tripod, two water bottles and few chocolates. Soon I reached shahanshahi ashram and from here the challenge was on for me. The trekking trail eventually became an off road cycling trail for me and as I moved further it became tougher. Well, after cycling for about 200 meters the trail did not allow me to peddle my cycle any further as the tyres were skidding on the surface and due to which I had to get down from the cycle. After walking for about 1 kilometre I saw a cemented trail which gave me a chance to ride my cycle again. From here on the trail really pushed me beyond my limits as the steep ascent made me work extra hard to cover every inch of the route. After 1.5 hour of continuous hard work at 5:30 pm I reached jharipani and truly I was really happy with my accomplishment. The view of Dehradun city was amazing, the sun was still above the horizon casting yellow and orange shade on the mountains. I halted in jharipani for 30 minutes during which I hydrated myself, ate chocolate and enjoyed the landscape in front of me. After relaxing and inhaling some fresh air I moved further and followed the route from jharipani to malsi which lies on Dehradun – Mussoorie highway. The route was difficult but surely achievable and at the end I would say that “Nothing stops a man who desires to achieve, every obstacle is simply a course to develop his achievement muscle, and it’s a strengthening of his powers of accomplishment.”
